After a 2 month, horror filled wait, my new Bike-hauler is home.
72 El Camino SS, BBC 402 with the TH400 slapstick auto.
Engine blew when I drove it off the lot, but the dealer was cool and had it completely rebuilt (and fixed the 2 small dents!). I even visited the machine shop and talked to the guys doing the work to get the straight story and urge them to get it done etc.
It now has ported heads with new valves, Edelbrock Performer Plus cam, forged domed pistons and connectors, new solid lifters, pushrods, rockers, oil pump, fuel pump, and a rebuilt Holley 670cfm carb.
It already had an Eagle forged crank and 12bolt rear with posi. About the only things under the hood NOT new are the alternator, water pump, radiator and power steering pump. Bed is already done with Linex so that’s one less thing I have to do.
I thought it had 4.10s, but after driving it again, I think it is more like 3.73, but I’ll get it jacked up once it stops raining and check.
Still running hot so I am thinking new fans, maybe a higher flow water pump.
